Perpetual Folly reviews New Yorker short stories

Laila Lalami, author and professor of creative writing at UC Riverside, righteously blogs away at a blog formerly known as Moorish Girl, now simply identified as Laila Lalami.

Earlier this week, she brought my attention to novelist Cliff Garstang's running blog commentary on the stories that have appeared in the New Yorker. Garstang's appraisals generally run a paragraph in length. His blog - Perpetual Folly - seems lively.

It's a particularly interesting project for a regular NYer reader such as myself. I like it. He and I agree about the recent Marisa Silver piece and some others. Check it out.

Thanks for this link. I really enjoyed his reviews/comments: Short, to the point, not exactly coy about saying what he thinks; So many reviews I've read lately are so convoluted I can't tell what the heck they mean. Reading this guy is like getting a short sharp smack upside the head .....

Anon, Thanks for dropping by. I agree with your take on Garstang - refreshing, that smack of his.
