Cornelius Eady is the author of seven books of poetry including The Gathering of My Name, nominated for the 1992 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry, and Brutal Imagination, finalist for the 2001 National Book Award, Poetry. His most recent collection, Hardheaded Weather has received enthusiastic reviews from The Washington Post and The New Yorker. With jazz musician Diedre Murray, he co-wrote Running Man, a music-theatre piece which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Drama and was awarded a 1999 Obie for best musical score and lead actor in a musical. In addition, Eady is co-founder of Cave Canem, a summer workshop/retreat for African American poets. He has received fellowships from the NationalEndowment for the Arts, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation. At present, he is Associate Professor of English and Director of the Creative Writing Program at the University of Notre Dame.
