How Heron Comes
~Mary Oliver

not to notice how at dusk
heron comes to the pond and
stands there in his death robes, perfect
servant of the system, hungry, his eyes
full of attention, his
wings pure light.

Who else could see the heron this way? And truthfully, the bird does look like an undertaker.
I really like this but I also find it sort of distressing. In a good way. Thanks for sharing it.
Thanks for reading.
and yes, heron as undertaker, especially from the POV of the tiny fish.
