Those folks not venturing north for the LA Times Festival of Books, may want to plan on attending some or all of these festivities. I highly recommend the Friday evening showing of Haskell Wexler's classic, "Medium Cool," hosted by UCI professor and author Jon Weiner.

The UCI Humanities Center will host a two-day conference on "The Future of the Sixties: Radicalism, Reform, Reaction." This conference will be a critical evaluation of emancipatory politics and institutional reforms in the wake of the cultural and political upheavals of the 1960s.

The conference will take place on April 25-26, 2008 in 135 Humanities Instructional Building.

This conference will take place in conjunction with a special Film and Video Center Screening on Friday, 4/25 at 8 pm in 100 Humanities Instructional Building of a rare 35mm copy of Haskell Wexler's Medium Cool (1969), about a television news cameraman and Appalachian migrant worker who meet in Chicago on the eve of the Democratic National Convention. The film features a score by Frank Zappa.
